0

A serious traffic accident involving a car and a scooter took place last Saturday, around 19:30 p.m., on LB Scott Road. The Traffic Department of the Sint Maarten police is in charge of the investigation which resulted in a seriously injured victim.

The scooter pilot lost control of his machine while overtaking on the bridge near Emilio Wilson Park. The two-wheeler struck a car from the opposite direction from the front. As a result of this shock, the driver of the scooter had a broken leg and various head injuries. Paramedics dispatched to the scene performed first aid before the victim was transported to Sint Maarten Medical Center. As in too many cases, the pilot of the two wheels was not wearing a helmet…

The Sint Maarten police point out that the law requires the wearing of helmets, and urges all scooter and motorcycle drivers to wear one, as it minimizes the severity of head injuries in the event of an accident. _RM
