Air Caraïbes: no connection between Paris and Sint Maarten

On August 28, the Member of Parliament for Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin, Frantz Gumbs, sent a letter to Christine Ourmières-Widener, President of Air Caraibes, following the airline's decision to finally cancel the service between Paris Orly and Princess Juliana St. Maarten airports.
“During our meeting at the National Assembly in April, we had a long discussion about the company's objectives and its desire to establish its roots in the Caribbean region and offer the best for the inhabitants and their territory,” wrote the politician. During the press conference with LADOM on April 29, Air Caraïbes officially announced the resumption of this transatlantic line for the end of 2024, declaring the company's attachment to “this cosmopolitan jewel of the Caribbean,” as Frantz Gumbs recalls in his letter. The latter expressed his “incomprehension” and “disappointment about this cancellation”: “I am thinking particularly of the customers who find themselves caught off guard and who are automatically placed on a flight with a stopover that they did not choose.” The SBH and SXM MP concludes his letter by inviting the company to reopen the dialogue: “I know Air Caraibes' commitment to better territorial continuity in the Overseas Territories; it seems appropriate, it seems to me, to remove this uncertainty and provide elements of explanation regarding this new situation”. To be continued… _Vx
