Juliana International Airport had to be closed and evacuated from its travelers and employees in the morning of Friday due to a bomb threat.

The terminal building and the KLM 785 aircraft, on which the threat was made by an anonymous call, were searched by various government agencies. The passengers, their families, PJIAE staff and service providers had to evacuate the terminal so that the searches could take place. When the authorities became certain that there was no bomb, airport operations resumed their normal course from 14 p.m. Access roads to Simpson Bay Airport via the Causeway and Maho roundabout have also been reopened to motorists.

The police spokesman explained that the entire building and the planes were searched inside and outside and no device was found after all precautions had been taken with a large professionalism by the demining team, security personnel and firefighters. _AF
