The entirely voluntary association Les Fruits de Mer is delighted to welcome the inhabitants of the island of Saint-Martin to The Old House this Saturday, April 20.

The Old House is the end point of the peaceful march organized by the Collectivité of Saint-Martin to defend the local land and heritage. The Community is organizing a family day at The Old House following the walk. For six years, The Old House has been home to the Amuseum Naturalis, a free museum about local nature, culture and heritage, created by Les Fruits de Mer. “We believe it is vital to preserve The Old House,” says Jenn Yerkes, president of the association, “Dating from 1766, it is one of the most important heritage sites on the island. We thank the Community for its dedication to the preservation of this site and for its efforts to acquire the land of Beauperthuy to use for the benefit of the people of Saint-Martin.” Volunteers from the Les Fruits de Mer association are preparing the Amuseum Naturalis at The Old House for a record crowd this Saturday. They also prepare books about the island of Saint-Martin for children and adults, to be distributed during family day. There will be a coloring area for little ones and an oral history station. Volunteers from the association will be present to answer questions about the museum and its exhibitions.

“Our team of volunteers is working hard to prepare for this historic event,” adds Mark Yokoyama, the museum director, “We are gathering around 1 books to distribute for free tomorrow. The Old House is my favorite place on earth. It will be a joy to share it with people as we stand united for the future of the island.” The Amuseum Naturalis at The Old House is a free community museum dedicated to the nature, heritage and culture of the island of Saint Martin. It is open every day from sunrise to sunset.

Created and maintained by an all-volunteer team, it hosts free school visits for schools on both sides of the island. _VX
