Yesterday, two roadblocks were erected on the national road, respectively at
Orleans and Orient Bay area.
A meeting with the "Saint Martin wake up" collective took place under the chairmanship of the
Prefect, in the presence of the Vice-President of the Community Mr. COCKS, and the director of
cabinet of the President, Mr. BRANGE.
The demands of the "Saint Martin wake up" collective focused on several subjects,
but mainly on the amount of rents requested from 3 restaurateurs, who wish
rent carbets on Orient Bay.
Despite 4 and a half hours of discussions, no agreement was reached.
At the end of this meeting, the Prefect asked the demonstrators to lift the roadblocks.
As these were not lifted, the Prefect called in the gendarmerie around
21 p.m., in order to restore road traffic throughout the island.
This morning, at 5 a.m., the gendarmes also intervened to put an end to the
place of a dam at Agrément.
