For the past week, the 37 young members of the Orléans Boxing Club SXM have been deprived of their training. The Palmeraies multi-activity hall, where the sessions usually take place, has been closed without any official explanation. This situation is not unprecedented: access to this facility was already suspended last February.
Since 2016, this club has been working with commitment in Quartier d'Orléans, a priority sector, by offering two weekly boxing sessions to young people, particularly children aged 7 to 11. These training sessions are not limited to sports training: they transmit essential values of discipline, respect, and social cohesion.
Faced with this sudden closure, incomprehension is growing. While technical or administrative constraints may justify a temporary interruption, the lack of information and visibility complicate the situation for both supervisors and young athletes. Unstable access to facilities compromises the regularity of activities, which are essential to the development and development of young people.
In the absence of an immediate solution, club president Leonardo Incardona had no choice but to suspend training. However, there is still hope: a rapid reopening and constructive dialogue with the relevant institutions, the Collectivité and Semsamar, to ensure a stable framework for the region's youth.
It's shameful!!! Boxing is more than just a sport; it often supports and mentors kids who, for some, no longer have any bearings. The noble art is often considered the school of life, and the pride of this sport, at least for these coaches, beyond the titles, is to see some of its kids enter and succeed in the adult world and the world of work, by applying what they have been taught, namely discipline, courage, rigor, sacrifice, strategy and willpower, to name only the strongest virtues.
At Sandy Ground, we are also looking for a place to practice and teach our discipline. The ten members train twice a week on the basketball court, in the open air, in the rain.
A training room is a sanctuary; it is in this place that we will forge our future champions, many of whom will become accomplished adults.
Strength and courage to Leonardo Incardona for the Orléans boxing club district and to Alfred Anthony of the Sandy Ground superstar boxing club who have been fighting for years to obtain the bare minimum to practice our art.
And I hope that the community and the sports department will eventually understand and appreciate the work accomplished by these volunteers to teach the basics of life to these future adults in our PRIORITY CITY NEIGHBORHOODS.
And I hope that these institutions will act quickly and help them to finally carry out this discipline in a suitable place and thus contribute to the development of these young people.
