The director of the regional health agency of Guadeloupe (ARS) explained at a press conference today how the tests will take place.
As the government has explained, increasing tests is one of the strategies for deconfinement. It will be set up in Saint-Martin, the ARS will do it.
Acquisition of necessary equipment
Today the Pasteur Institute which carries out the tests for Saint-Martin and Guadeloupe is able to carry out 300 tests per day. "He has acquired additional equipment which will allow him, from next week, to carry out up to 800 tests per day in total", Announces Valérie Denux, the director general of ARS. The Pointe-à-Pitre and Basse-Terre teaching hospitals also each bought a machine enabling them to carry out up to 500 and 100 tests per day, respectively. "We also worked with Cirade to requisition their machine which can do up to tests per dayAdds Valérie Denux.
In addition, the COM de Saint-Barth ordered four machines - but has only received one so far - to perform up to 100 tests per day. The COM of Saint-Martin also ordered four machines.
For its part, the State is also requisitioning machines for the ARS and the Guadeloupe agency will receive one, confirmed the director. The equipment orders being large at the national level and therefore the delivery times uncertain, the director of the ARS will make available to Saint Martin the requisitioned machine if the COM cannot receive one of the four ordered quickly. 100 tests per day can also be performed.
Training of additional staff
Buying machines is one thing, but being able to do the tests is another, the procedure being strict. "There is no point in having the machines if you don't have the samplers. Training was therefore organized to also have more trained staff“, Adds the director of ARS.
Who will be tested?
Regarding the audience that will be tested, Valérie Denux confirmed having already asked a week ago "to expand testing»To people with "Mild symptoms»And contact cases; until today only the most serious cases were tested. This will allow you to see if the virus is circulating. The instructions were given to the sentinel doctors. However, even if the doctor orders a test, the patient does not have to be tested.
Finally concerning the screening announced by the COM which should take place in the next few days while waiting for the machines, "it is a question of locating in the neighborhoods people who are sick but who cannot go to a doctor because they can not, "said the director of ARS.
