Covid-19: Faced with the upsurge in the number of cases, the Prefect calls on the population to be vigilant!

The health situation in Europe is currently deteriorating with the increasingly rapid dissemination of the OMICRON variant. In Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, we see an increase in the number of cases over the last week with 45 positive cases in Saint-Martin against 13 the previous week, and 28 against 7 in Saint-Barthélemy.

Even if the statistics show a reduced level of presence of COVID, this acceleration in the circulation of the virus calls on all the inhabitants and economic actors of the territory to be cautious. The Prefect, Serge Gouteyron therefore calls on all those present on our islands to be cautious. The end-of-year celebrations, a moment of family reunion par excellence, must be the object of great vigilance on the part of all with a reinforced respect for barrier gestures.

In addition, following certain events that have not been declared or have not respected the commitments made to the authorities, the prefecture services point out that all public events or exceptional events organized by establishments open to the public outside their conventional operation must be declared and authorized by the prefect. In order to support the necessary mobilization of all, the services of the national gendarmerie will strengthen the checks to verify these declarations.

Finally, for the evenings of December 24 and 31, 2021, bars and restaurants are closed at 2 a.m. In addition, an order prohibiting the sale of alcohol to take away from 20 p.m. and alcohol consumption on public roads between 20 p.m. and 6 a.m. will be issued for the evening of December 31.

The latest positivity rates observed in Saint-Barthélemy (7,3%) and Saint-Martin (3,4%) encourage the greatest caution and strict compliance with health instructions.

If in the next few days these data are confirmed, the Prefect will not fail to take much more restrictive measures. This is why the Prefect appeals to the civic sense as to the responsibility of all.
