The Les Fruits de Mer association invites the public to celebrate the launch of two new books in the Soualikids series of books for children produced by them this Saturday, February 10 from 9 a.m.

The free launch event will therefore take place tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at the Amuseum Naturalis in Quartier d'Orléans. The two new books in the series, Soualikids Birds and Soualkids Birds Coloring Book, feature the birds of Saint-Martin. These two books will be distributed free of charge, and coloring lovers can meet at the small station provided for this purpose. The author and photographer will be present for the book signings. The Les Fruits de Mer association developed the Soualikids series following requests from educators and parents in Saint-Martin, who asked for material about this island for toddlers and nursery school children. Each book in the series is a quadrilingual “word book”: English, French, Spanish and Dutch. The objective of the series is to highlight the nature, culture and heritage of Saint-Martin, to help young children acquire the basis of vocabulary to describe the exceptional environment in which they live. “The series is called 'Soualikids' because it was created for the children of Saint-Martin, and Soualiga is one of the Native American names of that island,” explains author Jenn Yerkes. “The nature books in this series are designed in pairs. Each pair includes a first book with wildlife photos, and a second companion book with fun coloring pages of the same wildlife. We’re excited to launch the second pair of books, which highlight beautiful birds that children can see right here in St. Maarten.” Soualikids Birds is a full-color 'look and learn' picture book, packed with stunning photos of St. Maarten's birds. His pair Soualikids Birds Coloring Book is a “color and learn” book with two coloring pages for each of the birds. It also includes a visual guide on the back cover with photos of all the birds featured. Both books include the names of the birds in all four languages. “Adults can share these books with little children to help them expand their vocabulary and discover the amazing birds of their own island!” " said Mark Yokoyama, co-founder of Les Fruits de Mer. "We will be distributing free printed copies of these two books to local preschools as part of Les Fruits de Mer's 4 book distribution program. Wed. And other Soualikids books are in the works, focusing on the creatures of the island, as well as the art and culture of Saint-Martin. See you this Saturday, February 2024 from 10 a.m. at the Amuseum Naturalis. _VX
