In Saint-Martin, the number of consultations for bronchiolitis, respiratory infection of the small bronchi, is higher than normal, which suggests the beginning of an epidemic, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS ).

On our territory, weekly consultations have seen “an increase in the last two weeks with almost 26 consultations for bronchiolitis, values six times higher than the maximum expected,” according to the institute. In Saint-Barthélemy, the same scenario: an increase in visits to the doctor has been observed since mid-November.

Limit virus transmission

The highly contagious virus causing bronchiolitis is transmitted by coughing, sneezing, by hands and contaminated objects, says the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes) . To avoid the transmission of the virus to the baby, precautions must be taken: wash your hands systematically before taking care of it, ventilate your room and avoid taking it to public places.
