Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of Overseas France, announced the creation of the Medal of Honor for Overseas Commitment by a decree published in the Official Journal yesterday, Wednesday February 9.
This medal – with its three levels bronze, silver and gold – is intended to honor people who have distinguished themselves by their personal commitment to the service of the Overseas Territories. It is intended in particular to reward those who, with exceptional merit, serve these territories on a daily basis, as well as the most deserving volunteers of the Adapted Military Service (SMA), the main socio-professional integration scheme for young people in Overseas France.
Until now, there was no specific honorary title intended to highlight this commitment. Thus many personalities, however deserving, were not eligible for any existing decoration of our Republic.
The minister points out that “this creation is a mark of consideration and respect for our overseas territories. It complements the means of reward that the Republic can offer to personalities who commit. I have also ensured, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, that the annual promotions in the order of the Legion of Honor and the national order of Merit do not forget the deserving candidates living in addition -Wed. The same applies to the annual promotions in the academic palms, agricultural merit, maritime merit and Arts and Letters. »
A first promotion, which should have nearly 700 recipients as normal, will appear during the first half of 2022.
