Touched by the testimony of a Saint-Martin child who came to take refuge in the town of Viroflay (Yvelines) after the passage of Hurricane Irma, the Jean-Racine college took action.
After the fury of the hurricane, a much calmer wind blew over the Jean-Racine college in Viroflay, that of solidarity with the island of Saint-Martin.
The idea appeared last November when the establishment temporarily welcomed Maël, a child who came with his family to take refuge with his grandmother, a resident of the town, after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
Since then, Maël has gone back to the Antilles, but the Jean-Racine college's solidarity club has not forgotten this either. On the contrary, by mobilizing and mobilizing their parents for their clothing, the middle school students organized a sale of cakes inside the establishment at 2 € per unit. They were thus able to collect the sum of € 2070 in 4 days. A sum to which the student hostel, directed by 2 teachers, added 1000 €.
The money has just been sent to the Soualiga college in Saint-Martin, that of Maël, partially destroyed after the passage of the hurricane. The Principal of this establishment immediately expressed his thanks to his colleague, the teachers and students of Jean-Racine, telling them that this donation will make it possible to buy computers and school supplies for his middle school students. "The goal was not to change the face of the world, but it is a very beautiful commitment and a beautiful gesture on the part of the students," confides Benoit Cordin, professor of Earth Sciences and Life (SVT) to Jean -Root.
