Teaching: An innovative and aesthetic vegetable garden at the Elie Gibs school

0

The pupils of the CE2b class, accompanied by the pupils of the Localized Unit for School Inclusion (ULIS) of the Elie Gibs school in Grand-Case, carried out since last February an innovative and aesthetic vegetable garden in the middle from their school yard. A vegetable garden that stirs the curiosity of children who see their plants growing every day.

It is in the classes that the melon, small tomato, arugula, lemongrass, basil, pineapple and even rubber plants were germinated. The students richly decorated the garden area using recycled materials, such as plastic water bottles, boards or tires in which they planted each of the different species. The innovative character comes from drip watering, made from a plastic bottle, with small holes on the sides, and placed in the center of the tires.

This experience allowed the young students to better understand the living in order to take care of it, but also to experiment and transcribe, verbally and in writing, what has been observed. Congratulations to all the students, as well as to Yoann Jacob, teacher in ULIS, to Xavier Mirre-Minori, teacher-trainer teacher, and to the AESH (Accompanying students with disabilities) Diane Parotte, Diana Cooks and Ramona Rodriguez-Klein . _RM
