GENDARMERIE: Lieutenant-Colonel Hugues Loyez Takes Command

On Wednesday, September 4, the ceremony for Lieutenant-Colonel Hugues Loyez to take command as Commander of the Gendarmerie of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin took place at Pointe Baby in Oyster Pond.
The event was held in the presence of the delegated prefect Vincent Berton, General Lionel Lavergne, the SBH-SXM deputy Frantz Gumbs, the 1st vice-president of the Collectivity Alain Richardson, representatives of the Governors of Anguilla and Sint-Maarten, as well as members of the SDIS, civil society, national education and the Saint-Martin veterans association. During this ceremony, several decorations were also presented to gendarmes to honor their courage and dedication to the safety of the inhabitants, in the exercise of their function. Captain Deneufgermain, deputy commanding officer, received from the hands of General Lavergne a citation in the order of the Regiment with the award of the gold national defense medal. The latter had commanded under fire on December 21, 2021 at Sandy Ground where gendarmes had been shot at as part of the urban violence. Seven soldiers from the Macon mobile gendarmerie squadron, on a mission in SBH and SXM, were also decorated. They had been attacked by individuals who had used firearms, on the night of July 13 and that of August 13 at Sandy Ground. _Vx
