School bullying: 12% of schoolchildren affected

The Minister of National Education Najat Vallaud-Belkacem announced yesterday the launch of a new communication campaign on school bullying.

The first national anti-harassment day will take place next Thursday. On this occasion, a video targeting 7-11 year olds will be broadcast on several television channels. “The campaign and the announcements that we are revealing to you today [yesterday] are primarily aimed at primary school children and witnesses. It is indeed from a very young age that the first situations of harassment appear. With regard to witnesses, research and experiences in the field have shown that it is by making them actors in prevention, by making them change their outlook and their position in the group that harassment diminishes, "said the Minister of National Education Najat Vallaud-Belkacem during his press briefing. A toll-free number, 3020, and a new site are also part of the ministry's new products for 2015/2016. According to several surveys, harassment affects 12% of schoolchildren, 10% of middle school students and 3,4% of high school students.
