0

At the end of July last year, RO, thirty years old, stole the bag of two tourists on the beach, in which were the keys to their vehicle. RO will open the car and steal another bag. Among the stolen items, a mobile phone, a passport, cash, a wallet, etc.

The tourists succeed in geolocating their smartphone and will go to the address indicated, in this case in St Peters in the Dutch part. There they get from neighbors the name and contact details of the individual they suspect of stealing their belongings. They then go to the gendarmerie to denounce him.

Thanks to the information given by the tourists, the gendarmes question RO who, at first, denies having stolen the bags and claims to have found them. He will then acknowledge the facts and point out where he threw a bag. The object will be found at the place mentioned, with the passport inside.

RO whose criminal record includes two mentions, was summoned Thursday before the local court of Saint-Martin but did not appear. In his absence, he was sentenced to a three-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 500 euros. The prosecution had requested three months' imprisonment.
