The Coat's thrift store now a weekly clearance sale

In February 2017, the Le Manteau association inaugurated its thrift store inspired by the Emmaüs model and supported by the State. As part of the circular economy but also social and solidarity, this project which works on the basis of donations, has a double objective.

"It allows people with low incomes to access clothes and objects at a lower cost (1 € / $), while making certain users work who sort, sew and repair what people have come to deposit" explains Audrey Gil, the director of the association. However, people registered in the Coat, who therefore do not have the means and generally live on the street, have free access to clothing.

The room, which had been fitted out by the users of the association, was destroyed by Irma. "After the cyclone, we distributed free clothing until April 2018. Then, unable to use the premises, we set up a clearance sale system" advance the director. The clearance sale is since open to everyone on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to noon on the covered courtyard, above the Marigot church. The money collected is used to buy food for the preparation of the thirty or so breakfasts and lunches served daily by the association to its users.

The Mantle indeed continues its other missions and lives thanks to subsidies which are not large enough to cover all its needs. People wishing to deposit their belongings (clothing, childcare, furniture, etc.) are invited to come to Le Manteau from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 17:30 pm.
