Before Irma, the conditions of detention at Pointe Blanche prison in Sint Maarten were denounced. The prison was damaged by the hurricane and half of the detainees had been transferred to other prisons on the Dutch islands. Since then, conditions have not improved and the capacity is limited to seventy places.
