For more than thirty years, Rosdal Editions, through their various publications, have been the image ambassadors of the islands of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.
On September 6, 2017, between two in the morning and noon, Hurricane Irma struck
these two islands of the Antilles, destroying everything in its path. Most powerful cyclone
never observed in this part of the globe, specialists speak of a super-hurricane.
In Saint-Martin, most of the island's activity sectors will be forced to standstill or extremely slow for several months. The 2017-2018 tourist season which was about to start will not take place. Rosdal editions magazines, ready to be printed, will not be released this year. Like many, it will be necessary to "hold" several months until the restart of tourist activity for the 2018-2019 season.
The images in this special edition were captured during the hours and days following Irma's passage by photographers living in Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten. All wanted to immortalize the extreme violence of the cyclone and document this major and unique event. The sensitivity of each photographer is expressed in these apocalypse images which are often, strange irony, "beautiful" photographs.
This special issue is dedicated to the island of Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten and its inhabitants.
Showing immense courage and remarkable determination, everyone aspires to one thing, to transform this disaster into an opportunity and to rebuild their Friendly Island.
