Metimer organized Sea Discovery Day on Friday 25 May to introduce young people from Saint-Martin to Tintamare and navigation.

150 students discovered the joys of navigation to go to the uninhabited island of Tintamare.

For many of them, who nevertheless grew up in Saint-Martin, it was a first: “I had not had the opportunity before coming here. I think it's great and I'm going to enjoy this day. I love the beach and being with all my friends. It was the first time I got on a boat I had a little headache but I managed and was not sick "says Shirley, pupil of 3rd in Mont des Accords, sitting at the shadow of a rock while waiting for the arrival of the other boats to start the activities.

The objective of this day, subsidized by the State as part of the city contract, is to allow young people from priority neighborhoods to get on a boat and explore their environment. This is why the boats skirted the coasts of Saint-Martin during the crossing.

Alain Pansiot-Villon, EPS teacher at the Mont des Accords college and UNSS coordinator for the northern islands, acted as intermediary between the national education authority and Metimer in order to select the participants for this day. “The selection is made by the referent colleagues of the establishments. We focused on students from the Sandy Ground and Quartier d'Orléans neighborhoods at 95%. After Irma, I think that all of Saint-Martin has priority, so it is also accessible to other young people who do not take advantage of these activities, ”he says.

The day would obviously not have been possible without the participation of a dozen operators, paid by Metimer to help them pay for fuel, boat maintenance, skippers, etc. (More details on www.soualigapost.com)
