The municipalities of Guadeloupe, Martinique and the Collectivity of Saint-Martin will benefit from a reduced period to touch the compensation fund for VAT (FCTVA) to repair the damage caused by Hurricane Maria, according to a decree published Thursday in the Journal official.

Funds available in the year of expenditure

The VAT Compensation Fund is a levy on State revenue which constitutes the main State aid to local authorities in matters of investment. It is normally only awarded two years (or one year in some cases) after the expenditure has been made. But the municipalities affected by category 5 hurricane Maria - the highest level - will be able to receive the FCTVA "the same year of the expenditure for those committed to repair the damage caused by exceptional bad weather".

In total, more than thirty communes in Guadeloupe affected by floods or mudslides and 17 struck by violent winds can benefit from these reduced deadlines, as well as more than ten communes in Martinique affected by floods. or mudslides and the community of Saint-Martin. Hurricane Maria hit the West Indies on September 18 and 19 just after Hurricane Irma, which devastated Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy on September 6, killing at least 11 people. Maria killed 4 people in Guadeloupe._AF
