A control operation led by the gendarmerie took place yesterday on rue de Spring in Concordia. From 6:30 a.m., 18 gendarmes, including two motorcyclists and a dog squad, were mobilized to monitor the flow and calm the tension around the schools, a measure appreciated by educational staff and parents.
Lieutenant-Colonel Hugues Loyez, commander of the gendarmerie, praised the reassuring effect of the police presence: "Vicious behavior disappears when we are there. However, we need to return to a normality where going to school safely does not require the presence of police officers." Despite the relative calm linked to a strike movement, several infractions were noted, including the failure to wear a helmet or seat belt and the use of drugs while driving. This intervention, the third of the week, is part of a strategy of regular checks. These repeated visits aim to establish a visible and dissuasive presence, as the delegated prefect Vincent Berton emphasized: "We must react quickly to stop the violence." Some young people reproduce territorial behaviors, going so far as to tag school benches to attribute them to a particular neighborhood and fight between gangs. Speaking with firmness, the principal of the Danielly Jeffry vocational high school has also set up a pre-disciplinary council every Friday.
The commitment of law enforcement to increase these interventions helps to create a climate of serenity around schools, an essential step to protect students, teachers and families._VX
