Sargassum forecast: Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth at medium risk

0

In its monitoring and forecast bulletin for the stranding of pelagic sargassum for the Northern Islands communicated on October 30, 2023, Météo France classifies the risk level as medium for the territories of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

Due to the heavy cloud cover in the Antilles in recent days, few detections are present offshore of the arc on the satellite images of October 27 and 28. However, thanks to the analysis of the images from last Friday, we can distinguish a few scattered rafts, which suggests the presence of sargassum to the east of the islands of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. The rafts in question are the source of sometimes repetitive arrivals in progress or to come in the coming days in the eastern territories. Offshore, the ocean seems clearer although rafts and filaments of sargassum are detected north of Barbuda. The supply of algae from the south should be monitored. Shoals of sargassum present between Tobago and Barbados should be carried towards the French West Indies by a southerly current. _VX
