Sint Maarten: Another case of corruption

0

The anti-corruption working group (TBO) and the criminal investigation team (RST) carried out a search yesterday morning at the home of Michael Dijkhoffz, government official of Sint Maarten, as well as in other houses and in offices in Philipsburg.

Michael Dijkhoffz is the head of the technology, IT and communication (ICT) department of the government of Sint Maarten. He is suspected of abuse of power when awarding public contracts in the ICT sector, and of having awarded himself contracts, or of having granted them to companies belonging to members of his family. During the investigation called "Seabass", several natural and legal persons were identified as suspects. Sums of money and land have been seized by the investigators, who will have to unravel the whole affair over the next few months.

The police were responsible for the investigation, as the justice system considers that the accused undermine the integrity of the administration and the public service, since administrative responsibilities and commercial interests are closely linked. Tricks that are made at the expense of the quantity, quality and price of products supplied to the government, which do not benefit the community and which, moreover, disrupt business transactions._RM
