TELEPHONY: The precious help and support of the AOTA and FRnOG Associations for Dauphin Telecom!

0

Like many companies in the Northern Islands, Dauphin Telecom's infrastructure was devastated by Hurricane Irma. Shortly after the cataclysm, the local operator was contacted spontaneously by Nicolas Guillaume, president of the AOTA association (Association of Operators Alternative Telecoms). The association then offered its help and started with the association FRnOG to collect equipment thus making it possible to secure and strengthen the core of the internet network at Dauphin Telecom. Did you say nice movement of solidarity?

Just over two months ago, Hurricane Irma devastated Saint Martin and the sister island of Saint Barthélemy. Among the many companies victims of heavy damage include the local operator, Dauphin Telecom which also serves Saint-Barth. The day after Irma's visit, Alain Haillant CEO of Dauphin Telecom, Eve Riboud the general manager and Frédérique Bjedic, the technical director, could only see the extent of the damage: telephone exchanges, IP network equipment, antennas of the mobile network, and a large part of the network infrastructure of Dauphin Telecom was destroyed by Irma. Hard hard…

A great surge of solidarity

In mid-September, during the last meeting of the FRnOG association, which unites informally the IP network operators operating in mainland France, the situation of Dauphin Telecom prompted a great solidarity action.

Indeed, under the impetus of Philippe Bourcier, animator of FRnOG as well as David Marciano, president of the Association of Alternative Telecom Operators and Nicolas Guillaume, secretary of the association, a call for donations was launched to the community. telecoms.

Thanks to the solidarity of donors, Ceriz, Cisco Systems, Infonegoce, Outscale and PulseHeberg / Netrix, more than € 40.000 of operator class hardware has been collected: 10Gb / s routers, 10Gb / s switches, routing modules , switching modules, PE router and VoIP sets,

The management of Dauphin Telecom would like to thank all the generous donors as well as the Midrange company which kindly lent its warehouse to centralize donations and took care of setting up the pallet.

However, the solidarity operation is not finished: a second pallet with the rest of the equipment will follow this first delivery arrived a few days ago in Saint-Martin by boat.

At the same time, the members of FRnOG and AOTA will help Dauphin Telecom on a longer-term action: the deployment of buried optical fiber. Indeed, we know it today or rather since the passage of the Irma monster, we are no longer immune to anything (extreme weather conditions). In fact, it is impossible to guarantee the sustainability of air infrastructure. Hence the need to bury the networks.

It is comforting to see that such a mobilization could have taken place in these times and moreover in a hyper competitive sector. Congratulations to the organizers of this action and to all those who have given their precious support to Dauphin Telecom._AF
