Davis Cup
Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet, partners for the first time in doubles since the end of 2014, brought the third point to France on Saturday at Baie-Mahault, qualifying the Blues for the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup.
The French duo have mastered the Canadian pair made up of Vasek Pospisil and Philip Bester in three sets (7-6; 6-1; 7-6) and 2h43 of play.
The Blues will host Germany or travel to the Czech Republic from July 15 to 17. The Czech Republic led 2-1 after the double in Hanover.
The 2016 campaign kicks off ideally for Yannick Noah's troop, back on the captain's chair 18 years after their last campaign. The 1983 Roland-Garros winner and double winner of the Saladier d'Argent as boss of the France team in 1991 and 1996 returned to hoist France again towards a coronation which has been fleeing it since 2001.
