Theft of vehicles: Saint Martin at the top of the poster

1

The Interior Ministry unveiled last week a study on overseas delinquency for 2015. Unsurprisingly, Saint-Martin stands out in several areas. “Very much above other metropolitan and overseas territories”, our island records 9,2 thefts of vehicles - automobiles or motorized two-wheelers - per 1000 inhabitants, we can read. The report also reveals the large number of thefts with weapons in Saint-Martin which “appears to be an extraordinary territory” with 124 thefts “for 35.000 inhabitants (ie 3,5 per 1000)”. As for intentional assault and battery - outside the family sphere - they are also high with 5,5 incidents per 1000 inhabitants. The study shows very varied situations in the 11 overseas territories. _EH
