POLICY: Beware of fraud on social networks!

0

Louis Mussington, president of the Community, wanted to alert the population of the existence of false profiles usurping their identity on social networks.

“There are currently fake Facebook profiles usurping my identity. These malicious individuals claim to represent me on Facebook, Messenger or WhatsApp platforms. These fake accounts have been reported, and I encourage you to do the same,” says Louis Mussington. Last March, it was the delegated prefect of the Northern Islands, Vincent Berton who was the victim of identity theft with the creation of a false account in his name. The president of the Saint-Martin Community would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and follow some good practices to avoid any fraud:

Never share your personal information such as phone numbers, email addresses, or banking details on these platforms with unknown people.

Do not respond to suspicious requests for payment or money transfer, even if they appear to come from official sources.

Always check the authenticity of accounts and messages by comparing them with the official channels of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin.

Report any suspicious accounts or messages. _VX
